ABOUT US

Both Dave and I were born and raised locally. We graduated from High School in 1969, Dave from South Kortright Central School, and me from Stamford Central School.
          Dave joined his father working a large dairy farm, while I headed for college.
          ‘Being away from home for the first time’ is how I describe my major my first two years at college; the State University of New York at Oswego.
          After a third year spent at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, we were married.
          (And it has been 35 years of pure bliss, right dear?)
          I finished college at the State University of New York at Oneonta, receiving both my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Home Economics Education, and taught for several years in local schools.
          My hotel training and experience, plus the Home Economics training, made ‘Bed and Breakfast’ a natural career choice for me.
          If you’ve read the ‘About Breezy Acres as a farm’ section, you already know about Dave’s work.
          Personally? We each have been involved in many community groups, volunteering for everything from coaching basketball, to serving on the boards of the Maple Festival, cemetery, church, Town of Harpersfield, being a big buddy and much more.
          For hobbies, Dave hunts, fishes, and plays golf and Ping-Pong. I read, garden and arrange flowers, bake, scrapbook, sing, and play trumpet. When in Florida, we both ride bike, and take ballroom dance classes. We also both enjoy entertaining; rather an important trait for B&B hosts, don’t you think?  

Until 1988, Breezy Acres was a working dairy farm, with 150 milking head and 150 replacement stock. We also made maple syrup and sold sweet corn at a small roadside stand.

After the cows were sold, we continued to grow hay and corn which was sold to other area farmers. In addition, Dave started a small excavating business, and began to grow and sell pumpkins.

During that time, we purchased more land and made a subdivision, and sold building lots. Dave also built a log cabin and sold that.

Now, our land is leased to a local farm family, who continue to grow hay and corn for their own cows. This keeps the land in farming, something that is important to us.

What this means to you, our guests, is that in whatever direction you look, you see well-tended fields, whether they be of hay, corn, pumpkins or grass.
